      Trees use light from the sun to make their own food – this is called photosynthesis and is one of the most important reactions on the planet. You may have heard of it and the equation is:

      Carbon dioxide + water — (sunlight)—-> sugar + H20

      Sunlight is needed as it kickstarts the reaction. The sugar made is the trees food.

      There are a few plants which can eats insects – plants like the Venus fly trap will catch insects in their traps, in order to get nutrients from the insect which it can’t get from the soil alone.
