• Question: If you can genetically modify bacteria why do you not modify embryos to be resistant to these types of bacteria?

      Bacteria are very sophisticated in the way they avoid the immune system to cause illness, and it would be very difficult to engineer a resistant person. Also bacteria tend to evolve to get around problems so if it were possible to make someone immune to diseases, the bacteria would probably evolve a way around this. Just look at the problems that we’re having with antibiotic resistance at the moment.
