• Question: How many years worth of research and technological advancements do you think will be needed before we can create a fully functioning dyson sphere on our sun or even stars in different systems?

      Good question!

Put it this way, I do not think our grandchildren’s grandchildren’s grandchildren will come close to seeing it. A civilization would have to progress to such advanced technology that they could literally harvest planets ad shape them as they choose.

If it is possible to develop technology that would allow us to do this (there may be physical limitations which stop us) then it would be tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of years to fully harness the output of our sun. There are easier ways of doing it than a Dyson sphere though. Like a Dyson bubble.

It probably would take a huge amount of resources (we’re talking about building something to wrap around a sun, it’s going to be big), so I think it would take more resources than we may even have on Earth. It won’t be feasible until we’ve inhabited other planet I think.
