• Question: do you think that carrots let you see in the dark?

      I think they can help because of the vitamin A they contain…but only if you haven’t already got enough of it. Beta-carotene is what makes carrots orange and is good for you too…unless you eat too many carrots, in which case you could turn orange!

      Yep, carrots have a lot of vitamin A in them. If you don’t get enough vitamin A from your diet and have very very low levels you can get poor night vision. Lots of children in developing countries may have virtually no vitamin A in their diet which can cause them to go blind. So it’s always good to eat lots of carrots (and other foods with vitamin A in)

      In the second world war, the British planes got given special radars to help them. But when the news reporters asked about why they were getting better, the Prime Minister didn’t want the enemy to find out about their new system, so he said that the pilots had been eating their carrots to improve their aim.
