• Question: As you are someone who studies effects of diseases on animals, i would like to ask you what would happen to a chicken if they had eaten a mouse that had died from mouse poison? She has not been eating and is very weak, any idea of what i should do?

I’m not a vet but I think that it’s quite likely that eating a poisoined mouse might make a chicken ill. I’d take her to a vet.

I agree with Simon, take her to the vet as soon as you can. The poison may have been enough to kill the mouse, but a chicken is much larger so hopefully she will be ok.

Rat and mouse poison is not specific so any animal that eats it will get sick…but as James says, being bigger than a mouse and possibly only having eaten a small amount will hopeflly mean that your chicken will pull through. The poison affects the ability of blood to clot so it would be important to handle her gently and not bruise her. The vet might be able to give her some vitamin K as an antidote.
